METRO is woven into the very fabric of this region. We always strive to remain visible in our community and seek opportunities to engage the public in our efforts to promote public transportation. By working together with the community, we strive to create strong neighborhoods and improve the quality of life for Houston area residents.

Outreach Activities

METRO is in the heart of Houston region. Every day area residents count on METRO to go to work, school, libraries, houses of workship and other everyday activities.  METRO sponsors numerous How to Ride educational programs and other outreach activities to educate the community about METRO services.

Community Fund Drive FY’08

Community Outreach orchestrated this year’s Community Fund Drive, demonstrating its ability to coordinate the efforts of the entire organization to collectively position METRO as a good corporate citizen.

More than 100 employees participated and raised funds for the American Heart Walk on November 3rd at one of the most prestigious local events of its kind.  Employees made a positive impression in the community while simultaneously addressing METRO’s health and wellness initiatives.

Individual departments worked together to demonstrate often hidden talents to successfully execute more than sixteen different fund raisers in unparalleled variety; including a karaoke show, “Frank’s Haunted House” and the “Snack Attack Cart.”

Ask Me Team Project

The New Year marked an important milestone for METRO with the introduction of the much anticipated METRO Q Card. One key aspect of this customer education effort involved the deployment of more than 100 "Ask Me Team" representatives to transit centers, P&R lots, and other strategic locations throughout the METRO service region.

Team members were supplied with the necessary tools and information to assist our customers. METRO's community outreach team set up a central command type operation that closely monitored all day-to-day Ask Me Team activities. This operation has also yielded a wealth of information about our customers, thus creating a fresh perspective and presenting us with new opportunities to serve our valued customers.
